Get Involved
The Iredell Soil and Water Conservation District provides educational programs for schools, civic groups, and other organizations. To request an education program, please contact our office at 704-873-6761, ext. 3.
Program materials include some of the following resources:
Food, Land, & People Curriculum
The Food, Land, and People Curriculum includes lessons for Grades K-12 that shows the interdependence of food production, land management, and human needs.
Food, Land and People is a national agricultural and environmental education program, which seeks to inspire and educate children and adults about the critical role of American agriculture in sustaining our food supply and conserving our environment for future generations. The program has developed a manual which contains many lesson plans. These lesson plans have been correlated to the K-12 science objectives for North Carolina. Workshops are conducted for educators to become facilitators for the program.
Project WET
The Project WET Curriculum includes lessons for Grades K-12 that promote awareness, appreciation, knowledge, and stewardship of water resources. In this day of global water problems, the quality and quantity of water resources affect the health and well-being of nearly 7 billion people on the planet.
Project WET is just 1 resource that can be utilized to educate the public on water resources. Activities include identifying your watershed address, discovering your role in the hydrologic cycle, recognizing that water knows no boundaries, and many more.
Project WILD
Project WILD is a wildlife-focused conservation education program for grades K-12. Project WILD links students and wildlife through its mission to provide wildlife-based conservation and environmental education that fosters responsible actions toward wildlife and related natural resources.
Through the use of balanced curriculum materials and professional training workshops, Project WILD accomplishes its goal of developing awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment. This results in the making of informed decisions, responsible behavior, and constructive action concerning wildlife and the environment.
Project Learning Tree (PreK - 12th Grade)
This Project Learning Tree (PLT) curriculum is specifically for PreK - 12th grade. It is not just about trees, it's about the environment: land, air, and water.
PLT activities teach students how to think, not what to think about complex environmental issues. Each activity is filled with opportunities to build critical thinking skills, incorporate technology, and use differentiated instruction.
Caring for Aquatics Through Conservation Habits (CATCH)
CATCH is a North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission curriculum with activities about aquatic environments, fish biology, outdoor ethics, water safety, and fishing skills. Lessons are geared toward students 8 to 15 years old.
