The purpose of the post-partum newborn home visiting program is to check on the well-being of Mom and baby after delivery. A registered nurse visits the home to do an assessment of the baby, provide any needed education, and make referrals for other services if indicated. It is preferred that the visit occur within two weeks after discharge from the hospital, but can take place up to 60 days after discharge. The home visit typically lasts 1-2 hours.
What will the nurse do?
Weigh your baby
Do a physical exam of your baby
Do a partial physical exam on you, if needed
Assist with scheduling appointments, if needed
Help with breastfeeding, if needed
Give information about community resources you may find helpful such as WIC and other programs.

The visit is provided at no cost to all Medicaid eligible women and infants.

We have certified infant car seat installers on-site that can assist with installing a car seat or can check to make sure it is installed correctly. A certified car seat installer can also accompany the nurse on the home visit to assist with or check your car seat.
